Poo.

The day started out with cuddling between father and son. And it ended with a change of clothing — for both of them.

I haven't laughed that hard in...well, maybe ever.

Silly Saturday.

Goofing off with Mom (fine, whatever):

Trying to recreate the silliness with Dad (terrifying):

Why are my parents so weird?

Pomp and Circumstance.

I know, Calvin. We're also wondering how on earth we'll be able to pay for college in 2027. You don't have to keep reminding us.

I haven't slept in a month.

Calvin is one month old today! We celebrated with a day-long sleepless crying fest. Oh, it's been fun!

After a trip to the grocery store (and to Sonic, where I drowned my sorrows in limeaid and tater tots - a surefire pick-me-up), he is now sleeping soundly in his car seat. Which is where he will stay, because every attempt I've made to put him down today has resulted in a total meltdown. The only thing that made him stop crying was holding him while I bounced back and forth. Sadly, I'm not in good enough shape to do that for eight hours. Or even one hour. I pretty much max out at 10 minutes.

It's been a long day.

However, despite the many moments of frustration I've felt today (and during the past month), I am nothing but thankful for this beautiful baby boy of mine. It is an absolute joy to be his mom, and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Except maybe a good night's sleep.

(Kidding! Kind of.)

Ant Jill and Uncle Kyle.

No, that's not a typo. That's for the benefit of my Minnesotan friends and family. In Illinois, "Aunt" is pronounced "Ant." In Minnesota, it's pronounced "Ahnt." Needless to say, I'm doing my best to teach Calvin the *correct* pronunciation.

Anyway, my sister Jill and her husband Kyle came up from Illinois to visit for the week, and left this morning. We absolutely loved having them here - they cooked, they cleaned, they held Calvin so I could shower. It was dreamy.

We were sad to see them go today, but so thankful they were able to come spend time with us!

Calming noises.

My friend Joanna and I have a long running joke about making calming noises. I'm not entirely sure where this originated, but I think it might be in part from the scene in When Harry Met Sally (my all-time favorite movie) where Harry and Sally are on the phone before bed and Harry says if he can't sleep he'll just stay up all night and moan. The scene fades with him going "mmmmm. mmmmm. mmmmm. mmmmm."

A little while ago I put Calvin in his vibrating bouncy seat, where he promptly fell asleep. A few minutes later, I heard these tiny repetitive noises coming out of him:

I'm surprised he was able to sleep so well with his crazy mother hovering over him with the camera. But some things are just too cute not to capture on video. (Even when the video quality is total crap.)

0-3.

Despite Calvin's birth weight, he's a pretty small kiddo. When they told me they thought he'd be between 9-10lbs, I fully expected him to go straight from the womb into 3 month clothes. Instead, I had to go purchase a bunch of newborn sizes, because he was a lot smaller than he sounded.

But yesterday I put him in his first 0-3 month outfit. It's one of the smaller ones and still too big, but I feel like his newborn sleepers are starting to get kind of short. Anyway, I really love this outfit (and my friend got it for him at Saks, so I'm pretty sure it wasn't cheap), but once I put him in it he looked a little like a baby gangster. I think it might be the hood.

Here are some pictures and a grainy little video of my man...hungry, cranky, and hiccuping. I'm not sure he's all that pleased with his gangster look.

Is there anything cuter...

...than tiny crossed feet in striped socks?

I really don't think so.
